She is named after the first pitty I ever rescued in Fort Walton Beach Fl, and the start of my saving/training and getting them to their forever homes. The year was 1995, I was 19 and had just moved to FL after my graduation the year prior with my X at the time. I already owned Otis a great dane/boxer/staff mix who was 195 lbs and the love of my life. He was the best dad to have with her and helped guide her in the right direction. Otis was already fully trained all commands including sit for extended periods of time in public and was usually off leash right next to my side. She was est to be 7 wks of age, flea infested and worm infested, (she had all 3 kinds, hook, tape, and round) after getting her treated, put on proper food and weight back on, her training went smooth sailing from there! She was crate trained in 2 wks, (not one peep) house trained in 3 wks, (fully not even accidents at night) she learned all basic commands, including no jump. I got her fixed at 5 months of age and in her forever home at 6 months of age in Panama City Fl, just an hour away from where I lived. I so wanted to keep this angel for myself but she was my first and I had set out the very week I got her in planning what rescues to contact, what sites to line up for placement, what back ground checks I would be needing besides vet, if the breed was allowed on their property, if they rented or owned. The list was a mile long! The owner she went with indeed owned her home, had a fenced in nice size back yard, no breed bann in the county or in state (thank heavens was before the mass bann) and had 2 teenage girls full of love waiting for her. She was to be an all indoor dog, had a previous pitty that had sadly passed 2 years prior so she was aware of their behavior and need for attention. I couldn’t have found a better home for her! I of course cried saying goodbye, I though would be heartless not to, this breed is the most loving I have yet come across.
Thus starting my private rescue of saving 43 pits, in 11 year period (all trained, and fixed to prevent more breeding), from high kill shelters, parking lots, Pulls from virgina-oklahoma-iowa-tennessee-south Carolina-and twin cities metro. All high kill humane societies and all of those were pups ranging from 7 wks to 7 months. I was on the pull list for 3 humane societies here in Mn where I live now, moved back here 3 yrs later. This was at the time where the new bill had not yet passed, so any pit coming in the doors did not get a chance in hell of staying alive, they were automatically euthanized and no wait period of 2 wks like other dogs.
Since I no longer rescue/foster/place (kids didn’t understand we cannot keep them all, stopped when they were young) I still help, I cannot not help. Donate blankets, food, crates when I can get them cheap on amazon, I have helped place friends in need, relatives (my hubbys brother is an idiot and cannot resist getting one every year that he than dumps), and even owners on CL posting theirs free into a safe rescue instead (the dangers of posting a free pit here in my state are insane). Best rescue in my state is SaveABull they really go by my standards of placing and out of their way to help when needed. I still do help with transports when needed for south metro. I really think anyone who has just a few hours of time to spare should team up with transports, its to help get them from one state to their forever home, or rescue to get them to their forever home. Transports are in need all the time! There are many groups on yahoo if anyone ever was interested in helping XD
For those who don’t know I am a Certified dog trainer/handler. I would recommend anyone who chooses to go down this path to do some sort of training for yourself and for the angels your saving!
Kay my long story is over…I wish I had a pic of my beautiful Precious who started me down my road of love for this breed but sadly I do not. We only had polaroid cameras back than and my X pretty took anything I had when we split!
She was a tan and white, only a white stripe down her face and jet blue eyes. <3 She was stunning! XD Thx so much Courtney for giving me this beauty with her Sister to join our pack. I am highly picky about pitbulls here so each and everyone hold meaning and Love! Xox My Faylyn
Traded my LPH boy for this pair
be a good girl, love you – courtney xo
